Chris Beardshaw - Apply now

2011 theme

For your chance to become the next Chris Beardshaw Mentoring Scholar you are required to design a small show garden scheme for the 2011 Malvern Spring Gardening Show (May 12-15th 2011).

Your design has to reflect the CBMS theme of Atom to celebrate UNESCO’s International Year of Chemistry which runs throughout the course of 2011. We are looking for creative, original and thoughtful responses to this brief.

Criteria for entering
Here is a guide to the desired criteria to help you decide if you are eligible to enter the CBMS scheme. You do not necessarily have to be a trained garden designer to enter – what matters is your creativity, willingness to learn and dedication to work in the garden design sector.

Candidates are required to possess:

  • Degree or equivalent academic qualification in the creative or horticultural sphere. Equivalent professional/life experiences will also be considered.
  • Work history to demonstrate stability and commitment
  • Interests in a range of endeavours – creative, artistic, cultural and social
  • A visible commitment for self development or broadening of own horizons - including world travel, night school, distance learning, membership of groups/clubs/societies, or achievement in face of adversity

In addition to the criteria outlined above we are looking for a person that demonstrates exemplary interpersonal skills, professionalism, creativity, maturity under pressure, an embracing communication style and someone who make a positive impact on others.  Above all we are looking for someone who will revel in the challenges of the scholarship and has a desire to grow and reach their full potential.

Deadline to enter
So if you think you have what it takes to be the next scholar then get your ideas onto paper, read our how to apply section, complete the application form and send it to
