At the recent CIHT Awards, our contracting division were awarded with Creditable commendation on their Health and Safety at work submission.
In 2008 Aggregate Industries Contracting (AI-C) recognised that although our H&S performance record was in line with industry averages it was not in keeping with that of an internationally recognised first class employer. As a result we introduced a set of H&S changes forming our Journey to Zero Harm initiative.
To demonstrate to our workforce that we have a genuine desire to send everyone home safe every day, we sought changes to create genuine H&S improvements through a holistic approach to leadership and management. All of the following changes formed our Journey to Zero Harm initiative with the aim of reducing the Lost Time Accident Frequency Rate (LTIFR) and the goal of becoming the industry leader in Health and Safety (H&S)
To implement the initiative, the EXCO instructed management and site teams to record how / why each change would be valuable in improving the perception of H&S on site, benchmarking a standard for each key change:
