October 2010
We took two trophy awards at the annual MPA Health and Safety Best Practice Awards.
Bardon Asphalt in the Midlands scooped the RBA Trophy (Refined Bitumen Association) for bitumen, asphalt and contracting safe behaviour, whist Duntilland Quarry took the MPA Trophy for Engineering Initiatives.
Hefin Jones and Danny King received the RBA Trophy on behalf of the Bitumen Working Group for their work in developing a Bitumen Discharge Permit which is universally used within Aggregate Industries and adopted by other national asphalt producers.
Jim McKay and Eddie MacDonald from Duntilland received their award for developing a hydraulic ram system for unblocking the surge pile recovery tunnel feeders, this eliminating a hazardous manual rodding activity.
The Health and Safety Best Practice Awards were held by the MPA in association with the Institute of Quarrying (IoQ), at the Institution of Engineering and Technology in London.
