Our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives seek to make our
businesses more accountable for their actions and decisions.
Corporate Responsibility extends to all areas of the business and
its impact on society and the environment. We have sought to make
our business accountable through the adoption of good practice,
such as ISO 14001 for environmental management and through
communicating on a wide range of non-financial information.
Our Sustainability Report contains details of what we have been
doing and the measures by which we judge our effectiveness.
As a member of Business in the Community we take part in the
Corporate Responsibility Index annually which benchmarks our
processes and performance against other leading companies. In 2006,
we were again one of the Companies that Count, being in the top
100.
A key part of our future development is in the growing arena of
Sustainable Construction.
Since 2004, we have sponsored the Civic Trust’s Sustainability
Award. This rewards projects which provide exemplary standards in
improving the places we live and work.
In 2006, we also became a Founder Member of the UK Green Building Council.
We work closely with local and national groups to development an
understanding of what we do and how we positively contribute to
economic, social and environmental well-being across all the areas
where we have operations.
