I joined Aggregate Industries initially as a Desktop Analyst and quickly moved into a role supervising a team of Service Desk Analysts. I was given the freedom from day one to really influence the direction of my team and to take on more responsibility, and quickly progressed to Service Desk Manager and then to my current role of IT Service Manager. Whilst I have maintained my responsibility for the IT Service Desk, I am also involved in liaising with customers and managing key suppliers to help us deliver our IT services. My biggest challenge at the moment is managing a project to implement ISO20000 best practice within the IT Department.
The company give you real responsibility and autonomy but also has the support structure and the training opportunities to help you succeed. I work closely with all our IT Service Centres within Holcim, our parent company, so we really benefit from all our experiences. It always helps being able to talk to someone going through the same challenges as you.
I really enjoy my job and the two things that make it special are the fantastic team of people I work with – people really mean something here – and the opportunities given to me. I am currently studying a Management Programme at Loughborough University, which is sponsored by the company, which will give me the qualifications to back up the experience I have gained. Aggregate Industries have been more than happy to assist me with my personal goals.
