After working as a PA for the Works Manager for a few years after I joined the business in 2000, I found myself getting more involved in the Quarrying side of the business and was keen to learn more about how the stone was extracted. I began accompanying the Shotfirers, who carried out the blasting operations in the quarry; I found my niche and a couple of years later I passed my Shotfirer and Explosives Supervisor exams.
I also became really interested in the Health & Safety aspects of quarrying. I attended various courses and sat the NEBOSH exam, which is a Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety. Now I am responsible for the monitoring of Health & Safety within the site. Currently I am in the process of completing my NVQ Level 3 in Shotfiring and Explosives Supervision, which will then allow me to be Appointed as a Shotfirer and Explosives Supervisor.
I thoroughly enjoy working for Aggregate Industries. If you need training to assist with your job role, they are always willing to help, and are happy to consider training requests that allow you to learn more about the industry in which you work. I honestly couldn’t see myself working anywhere else now.
