Brief

HMB Alliance, under the AMP 3 frame work, were contracted to upgrade Burnley WWTW. This involved a new process and storage tanks and chemical dosing equipment. The contract specification required that all concrete with the potential to be exposed to ammonium sulfate or caustic soda within the chemical dosing plant be protected with a resin coating. This posed construction issues; ensuring dry concrete for resin application and programme constraints due to bad weather.

Solution

Following on site discussions Diamondcrete AE was evaluated as a cost effective alternative whilst maintaining the required level of chemical resistance for the exposed concrete surface. The concrete bund walls and slab along with the tanker offloading bay incorporated Diamondcrete AE

Reduction in construction cost, both materials and programme allied to enhanced in-service performance within the tanker offloading area.
