Masterblock supplied Masterdense Fairfaced block due to its high performace and ease of use for a multi-functional development
The new 25,823 capacity all-seater ground is the second largest stadium in Wales after the Millennium Stadium and is built on the site of Cardiff Athletics Club near to the football club’s Ninian Park facility. The £29 million project will also include a retail park, a new housing development on the Ninian Park site, a brand new hotel and a new athletics stadium.
SolutionAs part of the project, Masterblock is supplying 18,000m2 of its Masterdenz Fairfaced block in both 100mm and 140mm widths. Masterdenz was the first unit on the market to be approved by Robust Details Ltd, providing a solid dense block masonry wall solution. Its unique markings include two 10-12mm nominal diameter grooves on one end of the block that make it easily identifiable as suitable for use in Robust Detail E-WM-9, negating the need for pre-completion testing of the acoustic properties of the built wall.
Until now, all separating wall construction had to comprise of two leaves of 100mm wide blockwork with a 75mm air gap, making the whole cavity wall width 275mm. When laid flat, an individual Masterdenz block provides the properties required to meet acoustic performance levels so can be used as a single course with a width of only 215mm.
The Mark Goodman, Site Agent for Reussir Ltd, who won the brickwork contract from main contractors Laing O’Rourke, commented: “We specified Masterblock’s range of concrete blocks based on the superior product performance and ease of use compared to other blocks on the market. Only recently we successfully completed a project for Hereford Technical College using Masterblock, so it was the logical choice for this new contract.”
