The project was part of the rennovation of the retail area, as part of the City of Culture Regeneration Programme.
To replace all existing footways with a range of products selected on the basis of whole life costs and value engineering. The products also had to satisfy strict criteria relating to aesthetics, functionality and practicality and be delivered in a relatively short period of time.
Despite a very challenging delivery programme of just 6 months, Charcon rose to the challenge by providing 20,000 m2 of Mid and Dark Grey Granite paving, delivered via containers over a period of 7 weeks. Working closely with both the landscape architect and landscaping contractor to ensure each part of their key performance criteria were fulfilled, the final Charcon solution, one of the company’s largest to date, has proved so successful that it has subsequently been nominated for a Public Realm Landscaping award.
Charcon has played a major part in the regeneration of Liverpool, also working on a number of other city projects including Edge Lane and Hope Street which links the city’s two cathedrals.

- Natural Granite paving has outstanding aesthetic appeal, coupled with high durability, and is available in a range of textures and finishes. All Charcon granite is quarried especially to order, to tolerances as tight as required, and to the relevant European standard. Granite paving is suitable for all pedestrian areas, and areas with vehicular overrun, subject to the correct design procedures being followed*.
- Granite kerb is particularly durable, and is designed to withstand occasional vehicle impact. Available with a full range of accessories, the product is also highly aesthetic, with a range of colours and finishes.
