Masterblock was able to work with multiple organisations to ensure that the correct product was chosen to give a good environmental rating, which was required from the project
The provision of a new maintenance facility on the site of a 1930’s and Second World War airbase, since adapted for use as the home for the Royal Air Force’s Central Gliding School.
The majority of Defence Estates projects utilise DREAM, (Defence Related Environmental Assessment Methodology), designed to monitor, and minimise environmental impact, and a high points total was required.
Architects Templemann Design are specialists in working on Defence Estates projects, and in conjunction with Masterblock were able to identify Enviroblock as the ideal product for this development. Masterblock’s Enviroblock has a high recycled and secondary aggregate content, and is classified as A within the BRE Green Guide. The location of the plant at Croft, Leicestershire was also important as distance to site was also a measured criterion.
The smooth close texture of the paint grade block makes it suitable for internal aesthetic applications, and can be left unpainted as well as decorated.
Testimony “It was important to use a product that had high environmental credentials in order to meet the tough criteria required for Defence Estates projects. Not only did Enviroblock have a recycled content of up to 80% we also had the added bonus of extra points due to the low radial mileage from factory to site”
