Ten Million Reasons to choose Aggregate Industries' Charcon range

Leading Glasgow based architect, Cooper Cromar, had more than 10 million reasons to make sure it specified the right type of hard landscaping to be used in the construction of the city’s newest out of town shopping centre.

For that was the number of shoppers expected to visit the 378,000 square foot, multi-million pound Glasgow Fort development at Auchinlea every year.

Cooper Cromar’s Alan Burns recalled: “With a massive 100,000 square feet of pedestrianised area to complete, the challenge was not only to break the blandness of this vast pedestrian area but also to use materials that would withstand such a high volume of human traffic.”

Using the latest computer assisted GPS technology, Alan and his team designed an intricate pattern of ovals and curving lines, running through the entire pedestrian area, providing a highly attractive visual effect and also a fun ‘trail’ for the hundreds of thousands of children expected to visit.

And when it came to a supplier for the job, according to Alan there was only ever one choice. “Aggregate Industries is the first name that springs to mind for any job like this,” he said.

The popular and cost effective Moordale Flag Paving with a Buff coloured, textured finish was chosen as the basis for the scheme. The colourful patterns and other marking lines were added courtesy of a mixture of Grey and Red Europa Block Paving.

Manufactured from hard wearing Yorkstone aggregate, yet with a surprisingly natural appearance, Moordale Flag Paving is widely used in a variety of applications thanks to its tight tolerances and excellent non-slip properties.

Available in a choice of thickness and colour, Europa Block Paving is suitable for just about all applications from pedestrian projects to heavy industrial use. The blocks are simple to install and even capable of handling heavy traffic movement.

Spread over a vast 500,000 square foot site just off the M8 motorway, Glasgow Fort boasts more than 70 retail outlets including names such as Argos, Virgin, Thorntons, Jessops and one of the largest TK Maxx stores in Scotland.
