Key facts

Sector: Industrial
Client: East Dunbartonshire Council
Contractor: East Dunbartonshire Council

Brief

A new public waste reception facility was planned for Mavis Valley. Historic problems with impact damage and premature wearing of concrete from the continual offloading and reloading of large metal storage skips forced a review of the concrete specification. The aggressive environment required a concrete that would resist both abrasive and dynamic forces.

Solution

After consultation with the clients engineers Bardon Scotland developed two concrete solutions. Firstly Diamondcrete WR for the skip storage areas and secondly Bardon Highpave for general hgv parking. Both concretes incorporated steel fibres to enhance the performance of the paving and to reduce cost over a traditional steel mesh design.

By utilising Diamondcrete WR, a combination of high strength concrete with steel fibres, both criteria were met.
