Bardon Contracting, the national road surfacing, civils and traffic management business, has confirmed its industry leading position by becoming one of the first construction companies to be recognised as a Gold Standard Investor In People (IIP). With less than one per cent of the 35,000 IIP recognized organisations in the UK having achieved the gold status, this award sets the company apart from its competitors.
Part of Aggregate Industries UK, Bardon Contracting achieved the gold status following independent assessment of its 1,000 strong workforce, based across the UK on both transient sites and in fixed office locations. The assessor was impressed with the improvements, dedication and consistency demonstrated across the business.
Since gaining IIP status in 2003, Bardon Contracting has achieved significant business improvements. Turnover has increased by over 200 per cent; the company has outperformed the market and reduced its staff churn, absence and sickness rates to well below the national construction industry averages. Employees have also reported improvements and benefits from working for Bardon Contracting in annual surveys.
Jane Jones, acting chief executive for Investors in People UK, said: “Gold represents achievement of world class best practice. Being awarded Investors in People Gold status shows that Bardon Contracting is a truly cutting-edge organisation operating at the very highest levels of people management practice, using IIP to drive the business forward.”
Mike Archer, national contracting director at Bardon Contracting said; “Our business is driven by the people in it and the support the business provides for them. To have this support recognised as world class best practice sets us apart from our peers as the only company in our sector to have achieved a gold award. To hear our assessor state that our organisation is terrific, and that it is little wonder that people like working for us so much, is fantastic. It is yet another award that we can all be proud of, and I look forward to seeing what improvements and success we can achieve in the future.”
