A range of products from Charcon’s flag and block paving ranges were used to give a sleek finish to the award-winning Technium Swansea building at the entrance to the SA1 Swansea Waterfront development.
Part of the pan-Wales Technium business incubation network, the building was designed to provide additional space for companies expanding out of the flagship Technium centre in Swansea.
The Technium network provides a series of technology-led business incubation environments dedicated to providing the relevant knowledge, support and physical facilities to help young technology businesses realise their potential for long-term growth.
Designed by Kennedy Griffiths James, the spectacular new Swansea Technium building has become synonymous with prestigious redevelopment of the former Swansea Docklands. The building was awarded the Lord Mayor’s Design Award for setting architectural standards that other businesses and organisations investing in the SA1 area would be looking to follow.
The eye catching design is at the entrance to the new SA1 development, and can be seen as visitors arrive in Swansea from the east. Both innovative and practical, the curved shape was designed to accommodate the existing public sewer which would have had to be moved if the original design had been followed.
Charcon supplied a range of products including Parliament Block Paving in Grey and Charcoal, Countryside Classic Kerb and the hugely popular in Grey and Charcoal, Appalachian Flag Paving in Black Fleck, designed to replicate the appearance of natural granite.
Architect Ceri Griffiths, said: “We were looking for a signature product to match in with the natural granite used in the surrounding areas. We very much liked the appearance of the Appalachian Black Fleck flags which have the additional benefit of providing both a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution than natural stone.”
The contractor on the project was Interserve and was supplied through merchants Brickability.
