Aggregate Industries is an international
aggregates, construction and building materials group, based in the
UK. We have leading regional market positions in the UK and across
the US, as well as operations in the Channel Islands, Norway and
northern Europe.
In 2007 the Aggregate Industries operating
businesses produced:
85.2m tonnes of aggregate;
13.9m tonnes of asphalt;
7.9m cubic metres of ready-mixed concrete
3.8m tonnes of pre-cast concrete products
Our aim is to supply quality products and to
provide first class service so that we continue to be a supplier of
choice in our sector.
Mineral reserves are the life blood of any aggregates based
company. We distinguish between mineral reserves, which are those
which we control and have permission or consent to quarry, from
mineral resources which are under our control but are not yet fully
permitted.
During 2006 Aggregate Industries increased its resources to 2.07
billion tonnes and increased reserves to 4.02 billion tonnes. We
have ten aggregate operations with more than 100 million tonnes of
reserves, four of which are in Europe and six in the USA.
In 2006 Aggregate Industries added substantially to its reserves
and resources with the acquisition of Foster Yeoman in the UK and
Meyer Materials in the USA. These acquisitions added reserves and
resources totalling in excess of 1 billion tonnes.
Aggregate Industries has 150 active sites in Europe and the USA
which produced a total of nearly 76 million tonnes of crushed rock
and sand & gravel in 2006.
Acquisitions
During 2007 to date, we have made a number of
acquisitions in the US, UK and northern Europe. In July we
acquired Hardaway Concrete Company Inc. and Hardaway Concrete
Company Upstate Inc in the US. The Hardaway companies are leading
suppliers of ready-mixed concrete for residential, commercial,
transportation and speciality construction projects in the Columbia
and Greenville, South Carolina markets. July also saw the
acquisition of Bucbricks, based at Ardleigh, near Colchester in
Essex – a producer of more than 20 grades of sand used for sports,
water filtration and a range of other applications, for supply to
customers across the UK and overseas. In September we acquired the
remaining 50 per cent share in Halsvik Aggregates, based in
Norway.
Other acquisitions in the US this year have
included the ready-mixed concrete companies Nazcon Inc and Klink
Concrete.
