2007 Acquisitions Information
During 2007 we made a number of
acquisitions in the US, UK and northern Europe. In July we
acquired Hardaway Concrete Company Inc. and Hardaway Concrete
Company Upstate Inc in the US. The Hardaway companies are leading
suppliers of ready-mixed concrete for residential, commercial,
transportation and speciality construction projects in the Columbia
and Greenville, South Carolina markets. July also saw the
acquisition of Bucbricks, based at Ardleigh, near Colchester in
Essex – a producer of more than 20 grades of sand used for sports,
water filtration and a range of other applications, for supply to
customers across the UK and overseas. In September we acquired the
remaining 50 per cent share in Halsvik Aggregates, based in Norway
and in October we completed the purchase of Readymix Southwest, a
former joint venture company in the South West of the UK.
Other acquisitions in the US this year have
included the ready-mixed concrete companies Nazcon Inc and Klink
Concrete.

2006 Acquisitions Information
During 2006 we made a number of significant acquisitions, the
principal ones in terms of size being Foster Yeoman in the UK and
Meyer Material Company Inc in the US.
With the Foster Yeoman acquisition we
purchased two significant quarries at Torr Works in Somerset
and Glensanda in Scotland, as well as asphalt and surfacing
operations in the UK and merchant operations in the UK and northern
Europe. Meyer Materials has aggregate and ready-mixed concrete
operations in Illinois and Wisconsin. Together they brought an
additional 1,500 employees to the Group as well as significant
history and expertise.
In the UK we also completed the acquisitions
of Mayhew Concrete, UK Bitumen, a majority stake in Ash Solutions,
Sitebatch Technologies, Roller Compacted Concrete Company, Needham
& Cullen and Bennett’s Barges.
