Meyer Material Company - A Closer Look
Meyer Material Company, acquired by Aggregate Industries in the
summer of 2006, is headquartered in McHenry, Illinois in the US,
and is a leading producer of ready-mixed concrete, construction
aggregates, concrete paving stones and retaining wall systems, and
related services in Illinois and south-eastern Wisconsin.
Founded in the 1920’s, the Company now has
over 700 employees and has maintained both solid results and a
commitment to customer service since its inception. In 2006, Meyer
produced approximately 1.9 million cubic yards of ready-mixed
concrete at its 25 ready-mix plants, located throughout the
suburban Chicago and south-eastern Wisconsin marketplace.
The business delivers concrete to customers
with its owned fleet of approximately 500 ready-mixed concrete
trucks, which are maintained in excellent condition. In 2006,
the Company put 30 new trucks into service. Meyer also owns
and operates six sand and gravel mining sites and is one of
the largest producers of both ready-mixed concrete and sand and
gravel within the markets it serves, making it the largest
integrated platform in the area. In addition, the
Company owns and operates a total of 15 concrete pumps and belt
placers and is the largest provider of concrete placement services
in the Chicago metropolitan and suburban marketplaces.
Paveloc, a division of Meyer, is a leading
manufacturer of premium branded concrete paving stones and
retaining wall systems. It provides its high-end products to the
construction and landscape industries in Illinois, southern
Wisconsin, eastern Iowa, western Indiana, western Michigan, and
Missouri. Paveloc is now a part of the Aggregate Industries US
Building Materials Division and is an integral part of the business
platform, as it consumes internally manufactured aggregates in its
products.
Meyer is well-positioned to take advantage of
continued growth in all construction segments in the suburban
Chicago and south-eastern Wisconsin marketplaces: The Company
expects to participate in servicing the needs generated by the
massive O’Hare International Airport Modernization Project, given
its close proximity (within two miles) and experience with similar
projects. In south-eastern Wisconsin, Meyer will begin
its second year of providing concrete to a new power generating
station utilising an on site batch plant.
The Meyer Advantage
The Company’s ready-mixed concrete operations
are structured around a decentralised dispatch system which allows
the Company to develop and maintain long-term, “local” customer
relationships more common to smaller contractors and customers.
Meyer’s “local” approach to service also
allows it to react quickly to changing market conditions and needs
at construction sites while bringing to bear the resources of a
much larger, organisation.
Steve Warnke, President of Meyer Material
Company said of joining the Aggregate Industries group: “We
genuinely believe that the depth of knowledge and resources of
Aggregate Industries combined with the local market expertise and
talent of the Meyer and Paveloc employees will be the basis for a
stronger company upon which we can grow and further enhance our
reputation as a substantial supplier of quality materials and
services to the construction industry.”
