The Road-Pod is a sustainable precast concrete modular system for use as traffic and pedestrian refuge islands.
It offers a cost effective off-site sustainable solution with significant savings on cost, installation time and reduces road closure times. This also means a reduction of site time spent in endangering and the enhancement of pedestrian safety. The system can also be used as a temporary, easily removable island.
Reduced installation times
A typical unit can be installed over a period of 3-8 hours, with minimum traffic management, compared to 2-3 days with traditional on-site methods using kerbs, in-situ concrete and asphalt.
Range of sizes available
The Road-Pod system is available in a range of sizes and there are five types of arrangement, from 1.2 m to 1.8 m in width and a number of island combinations. Other widths are available on a made to order basis.
The units come complete with provision for illuminated, reflective or solar powered type bollards, high level and solar powered columns, cast-in tactile surfaces and lifting points for ease of fitting. The weight ranges from 382 kg to 1.93 tonnes.

Sustainable solutions
The Highways Agency’s ‘smarter choices’ scheme, promoting sustainable travel, looks
at methods of reducing congestion on our roads. The ease and speed of installation of Road-Pod dramatically cuts road closure times, meaning that congestion and the increased CO2 production of stopping and starting traffic is greatly reduced.
The Road-Pod is also reusable at the end of its life. It can be repositioned should there be any changes to the road structure or traffic flow.
