1 of 1 | Permavoid within a SUDS system

Engineered SUDS can be split into two different types:

  1. Pervious surfaces
  2. Impermeable surfaces with engineered source control drainage systems

Pervious surfaces
Pervious surface systems include permeable or porous surfaces to car parks, roads, hardstandings and pedestrian areas.

Infilta block and DrainAsphalt are typical of these types of systems and can enhance the urban landscape. A study by H.R. Wallingford determined that pervious surfaces are one of the most effective and space efficient methods of incorporating SUDS into developments.

Impermeable surfaces
Impermeable surfaces can be provided with source control systems such as the Permachannel system which provides a more effective means to treating pollution than conventional drainage systems and oil separators.

Our wide range of SUDS solutions means that a system can be designed to cover all situations and site constraints. Design considerations include:

  • Land use characteristics
  • Site characteristics
  • Catchment characteristics
  • Performance requirements
