The health, safety and well-being of those working in and
visiting our operations continues to be one of our top priorities.
To this end we have developed health and safety policies across our
operations with operational systems and procedures designed to
ensure that we meet the highest possible standards of safety
management.
In 2006 we adopted the Holcim passion for safety initiative
which initially required us to reduce our Lost Time Injury
Frequency Rate by 30% over the figure we achieved in 2004. We
achieved that target, recording a reduction from 9.81 to 6 as at
the end of March 2008. Our on-going target is to achieve an annual
30% improvement until the LTIFR is 2 or below.
The LTIFR is calculated as the number of lost time injuries
recorded per million hours worked and a lost time injury is
classified as an injury sustained at work which results in one
complete day or shift being lost.
