Our Biodiversity Plan was developed in consultation with key stakeholders and has allowed us to review and modify our initial approach to maximise our effort through better planned activities and targeted conservation works in our landholdings.
The five themes around which we have planned our objectives are contribution to landscape scale conservation, prioritised site based action, prioritised action to specific habitats and species, effective monitoring and performance reporting to demonstrate positive contributions to UK Biodiversity Strategy and to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity in conjunction with key partners.
We have categorised our sites across the UK into one of three tiers so that we may contribute in proportion to our impact using criteria for both biodiversity and community engagement. As written in our biodiversity plan, we will publish here both those critieria and report our progress at tier one sites.
Sites shall enter a program to work towards achieving certification to The Wildlife Trusts Biodiversity Benchmark by the end of 2009.
Undertake targets which encompass participation, investment and engagement against all five themes.
Sites shall develop a biodiversity management plan in conjunction with community partners for identified parts of the land under our control.
Sites will develop a plan which will encompass participation, investment and engagement within one of the themes.
Sites shall develop and implement simple and low-cost means to raise awareness of nature and to make a contribution to enhancing the amenity of their area. This may include but not be limited to;
These smaller, often standalone sites will undertake targets either participation, investment or engagement within one theme.
