Carbon Trust Standard

In September 2009 we led the way to become the first company in our sector to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard across all our UK operations.

The ongoing use of bio-fuels, investment in both technology and infrastructure and an increasing awareness of carbon emissions across the business have been major contributors to this substantial carbon footprint reduction.

“Being certified with the Carbon Trust Standard is proof an organisation has taken genuine action to reduce their direct impact on climate change by cutting carbon emissions. We congratulate Aggregate Industries on this achievement."

- Harry Morrison, General Manager of the Carbon Trust Standard

As part of our work towards the standard, an Energy Performance Certificate system has been developed for all our asphalt plants**. Grading every plant from A-G, the system ensures all units are moving towards an A grade with individual improvement plans in place. An industry first, the scheme is being considered by the Mineral Products Association with a view to creating new standards across all asphalt plants in the UK.

“As the first construction materials company to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard across the business, Aggregate Industries continues its role as industry leader. This follows hot on the heels of our recent accolade as the first to achieve company wide BES 6001 responsible sourcing certification. Sustainable practice is vital to our performance and growth and reducing carbon delivers tangible benefits.”

 - Bill Bolsover, Group Chief Executive of Aggregate Industries

The Carbon Trust Standard is the world’s first carbon award that requires an organisation to measure, manage and reduce its carbon footprint and actually make real reductions year-on-year. Unlike other award schemes, organisations are rewarded for actions they’ve taken to cut carbon across their own operations.
