Hints and tips

On this page we have put together some hints and a few of our photos to help your own creativity along.

DPI / Resolution
300 dpi or dots per inch, refers to the number of individual dots that can be placed within the span of one linear inch (2.54 cm). This means when the image is enhanced for printing, the detail is kept and the image will not appear fuzzy. 300 dpi is the standard setting for commercial printers to ensure the highest quality. Most ordinary digital cameras will capture an image between 50 and 250 dpi.

To help us to get the best out of your pictures, make sure that your camera is set to the highest possible resolution setting. On most cameras, you need to check the picture setting and ensure the highest value of megapixels (MP) is selected. You can check the dpi in Microsoft Picture Editor (other picture editing software is available) by right clicking over the picture - select Properties and check the full list of picture properties which is available on the right hand side.
