We are very conscious of our corporate and social responsibilities in trading with other nations and we support the ETI Base Code of labour practice.
Within our supply chain we have identified potential risks from existing and potential suppliers. Primarily these relate to child labour being used in natural stone products that we import from India and China. In 2010, imports from these countries accounted for an estimated less than 1% of our total products sold.
To assess this risk we have a policy which contains standards restricting trade if child or forced labour is found, worker health, safety and welfare is ignored or pay is below the local legal limits. The policy is supported by a comprehensive code of practice for natural stone suppliers, held in our information management systems.
It is our intention to help our suppliers to comply with our policy, which we monitor against our code of practice, in order to maintain long-term benefits for all parties. Deliberate and persistent failure to comply with our policy and the code of practice could result in a breach of contract and result in the cessation of trading.
