The health, safety and well-being of those working in and visiting our operations continue to be one of our top priorities. To this end we have developed a health and safety policy across our operations with operational systems and procedures designed to ensure that we meet the highest possible standards of safety management.
A culture of safety awareness is promoted throughout all levels of company operations, with continuous feedback and review used to develop and improve upon our existing safety performance.
In 2006 we adopted the Holcim passion for safety initiative which initially required us to reduce our Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) by 30% over the figure we achieved in 2004. Our on-going target is to achieve an annual 30% improvement until the LTIFR is 2 or below.
The LTIFR is calculated as the number of lost time injuries recorded per million hours worked and a lost time injury is classified as an injury sustained at work which results in one complete day or shift being lost.
