The Bardon Hill community project was set up by Mantle Arts to help put Bardon Hill, one of our largest quarry sites, on the map by exploring the unique nature of the site.
Situated just outside the town of Coalville, Bardon Hill boasts rare, protected wildlife and geology as a designated Site of Specific Scientific Interest. A point of interesting and varied social and industrial history, the hill also offers amazing views - as the highest point in Leicestershire you can gaze out across five counties of England! Mantle Arts, a creative group of artists and local mental health service users, brought together to map the different aspects of the hill. Meeting weekly the group is researching, photographing, sketching, sound recording, interviewing and writing to produce an online PDF and exhibition to encourage other people to visit the site and discover how special it is.
Download the fantastic guide to Bardon Hill from this site and see what is so special by planning your own visit.
