Code Sustainable Houses

The Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) was introduced in England in April 2007 following consultation with the construction industry and environmental groups. Whilst the scheme itself is voluntary, regulations mean that new homes will be required to provide information to potential buyers about the sustainability of the dwelling. The implementation of the CSH is managed by BRE Global Ltd.

The CSH covers nine design categories which include; energy and CO2 emissions, water, materials, pollution and management amongst others. The performance standards are more demanding than the current Building Regulations; this is to improve levels of best practise and to raise environmental standards.

The materials category focuses on the environmental impact of the materials used and whether they have been responsibly sourced. Aggregate Industries manufactures a range of products that have been given their own ‘Green Guide’ rating and can therefore contribute to additional points being awarded in the CSH. Construction products certified against the BRE BES 6001 standard are awarded different tiers and therefore points depending on the certification level achieved. We provide products across the range of major building elements as outlined in the CSH.
