Transport plan

On time delivery of our products to our customers’ sites is critical for the continued success of our business. However, we recognise that the transport of our products and services can have adverse social and environmental impacts such as:

  • Use of fossil fuels
  • CO2 emissions (234,979 tonnes in 2008) (197,384 tonnes in 2009)
  • Increased road vehicle movements
  • Nuisance to local residents.

This has prompted us to review our transport provision, to engage with key stakeholders, internally and externally and to ensure that we are well positioned to manage the environmental impact of this activity in the future.

In 2010 we established a transport steering group as a result of our carbon plan. Our statistics show that process emissions have slowly declined in the past three years but transport emissions have gradually increased. Our transport plan seeks to better understand the transport dynamics in the business and to reduce the emissions associated in transporting Aggregate Industries’products. The transport plan also considers transport planning of new sites and sets CO2 limits for company cars.
