Brief
The Seven Acres site at Clay Farm just outside Cambridge was the first development for Skanska Residential in the UK.
These homes were built along slightly different lines, including open plan design, and in a development that that will eventually include a secondary and primary school, shops, and a community centre.
The homes also incorporated many environmental features. Notably Skanska committed to using responsibly sourced materials.
Solution
We were able to work with Skanska to suppy products rated as “Excellent” under BES 6001: Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products by the Building Research Establishment (BRE)
All of the homes had to meet the forthcoming “Part L” 2013 regulations for fabric efficiency, and our technical design service was used to ensure that our blocks helped meet the correct U-values.
Similarly the noise requirements for the building which form “Part E” of the Building Regulations had to be beaten by 5 decibels on the various properties.
The properties at Seven Acres have already proved highly popular, proving that great design and sustainability have a major part to play in housing of the future.
