Aggregate Industries has once again been named preferred supplier for aggregate materials at Windsor Castle – this time for the drainage upgrades around the all-weather Castle Arena in Home Park.
The arena forms a key part of the estate’s equestrian facilities and plays host to some of the world's best competitive riders and dressage champions during the annual Royal Windsor Horse Show.
Working closely with specialist equine surfaces contractor, Martin Collins, Aggregate Industries recently supplied 900 tonnes of washed single size limestone for the resurfacing of this impressive arena. The work formed part of a maintenance programme, ten years after the arena was first opened.
"Being an all-weather arena, the riding surface had to perform in all conditions, with drainage being the most important factor on wetter days," explains Jamie Greenwood, sales and logistics manager for Aggregate Industries.
"Washed single sized limestone was specified due to its angular nature, which offers a superior 'lock' when laid and is the ideal solution for ensuring rainwater can pass through whilst maintaining a firm hold within the channel – a key factor given the continuous use of this arena. By washing the material with specialist equipment at our Torr quarry in Somerset, we were able to deliver an aesthetically pleasing solution that would offer all the drainage capabilities required. All this with minimal fines residue, which can block drains and build up in soak aways."
This is not the first time Aggregate Industries' high-quality products have received the royal seal of approval. The team has provided resurfacing materials for the annual path refurbishment programme at Windsor Castle for over half a decade, and has handled many other enquiries from royal residences throughout the UK.
Jamie concludes: "There is no higher praise than being told your products are fit for royalty. We work hard to provide the very best aggregate solutions on the market, delivered with faultless service and unrivalled knowledge of the materials we produce."
