Designed by Edward Cullinan Associates, the 19 acre mixed-use Bristol Harbourside scheme is organised around new and improved public spaces, providing over four acres of accessible landscape including landscaped public promenades, urban squares and green spaces as well as 100,000 square metres of development, including 670 new homes and apartments, commercial office space and small workshops as well as leisure and retail outlets.
In order to complement such a high profile scheme, landscape architects, Grant Associates were seeking a signature hard landscaping product which would help to create a clean, aesthetic appearance, look attractive when weathered and also be in keeping with Bristol’s rich heritage.
With more than 8,000 square metres of public realm within the development, the product also needed to be suitable for use in a variety of applications including footways, access roads and car parking.
A popular choice due to its strong visual appeal, excellent skid resistance and heavy-duty load-bearing capabilities, Charcon Andover Textured Block Paving already had a strong and established presence within the Bristol city area and was an obvious choice for the Harbourside scheme. The Silver Grey colour was chosen to provide a clean, contemporary appearance with exposed black and white Cornish aggregate adding texture to the landscape without creating an uneven surface.
In addition to supplying the perfect product, we also worked closely with the contractor, providing estimated volume detail to ensure that the correct quantities were ordered and delivered according to the construction programme.
