As part of the Field Operations Interventions of Large Employers programme, the company has entered into a three to five year agreement with HSE with effect from April 2010, which will monitor its safety management performance surrounding its quarrying operations across the UK.

HSE will evaluate Aggregate Industries’ activities against agreed key performance indicators through a combination of structured visits to quarries and corporate reviews. Working in partnership, the two organizations will agree action plans for improvements based on advice from specialist HSE inspectors who make up the Quarries National Inspection Team. The processes involved in the FOILE Initiative will provide Aggregate Industries with a consistent approach for all areas of its business.

Colin Mew, HM Principal Inspector of HSE’s Quarries National Inspection Team, said, “Aggregate Industries can demonstrate a mature health and safety culture, a coherent health and safety plan and a willingness to work in partnership with the HSE to achieve Target Zero. I am looking forward to a productive relationship with them.”

Bill Bolsover, Chief Executive of Aggregate Industries, said, “This agreement will see Aggregate Industries confirming its market leading position at the forefront of sustainable construction by entering into a closer relationship with HSE based on our strong performance in health and safety matters across our business. Today’s announcement also highlights our ongoing commitment to the BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing framework from BRE Global, an independent certification scheme which assesses responsible sourcing policies and practices throughout the supply chain of construction products.”
