Aggregate Industries attended The Construction News Awards on the 11th July at Grosvenor House Hotel where 1150 of the industry's finest competed.The judging was made up of 57 of the big-name Clients, Consultents, Contractors and representatives of the goverments industry bodies - a tough discion was to be made.
We are pleased to say that we won the catagory of Supply Chain Catagory of the year, with are JV Project with Cemex. The Award was for the 2.2million tonnes of Aggregate and 600,000 tonnes of Asphalt layed on the stretch between the A1 Dishforth to Leeming.
The Judges’ commented: "The level of integration between Aggregate Industries and Cemex, their customer Carillion/Morgan Sindall, local hauliers and a local independent quarrying firm is almost unprecedented.
They went on to say: “This is a great example of two companies who would normally be in fierce competition coming together to deliver a project that demonstrates effective integration of the supply chain, with a focus on health and safety, process innovation and demonstrable improvements in results.
Aggregate Industries also won Highly Commended in the catagory for the best use of Technology with the Bar-Tec Implementation, in partnership with Moba.
With the prominent need to deliver accurate data to assist our customers with the management of their highways asset, in 2011; collaboratively working with MOBA (one of our supply chain partners) we decided to invest in and produce the Bar-Tec System. This is a Paver Quality Data Management System; unique to Aggregate Industries, redefines the technological process of the supply and lay of asphalt. This new combination of technologies automates the material laying record process, enabling us to produce in-depth performance reporting and visualisation of productivity.
The Bar-Tec System creates a unique, immediate (real-time), precise and continuous source of data, which is fed directly to the Aggregate Industries main server, enabling us to record and extract information from the laying process within an hour of laying the material. It significantly improves the quality of information and support we can generate for our customers. The information gathered includes:
- Sensor outputs - temperature, wind speed, etc
- Timings (via Google earth)
Comprehensive data and geo mapping enables us to improve our knowledge and efficiency of operational performance.
