Every year, during the month of June, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community organises various events across the globe to promote equal rights and to increase society’s awareness of diversity.
Jo Hankinson, HR Business Partner at Aggregate Industries, comments: “We know that employees perform better when they can be themselves in an inclusive and truly equal environment, which is accepting of all. This is why we strive to achieve this and have placed a real emphasis on our diversity and inclusion strategy. Pride Month is a great opportunity to reflect on the value of being diverse as not only an organisation but also as an industry, so we can all fulfil our potential.”
Jo adds: “Looking ahead, it is vital that progress is made to ensure we can bridge the ever widening construction skills gap. After all, equality and diversity isn’t just about a ‘tick in the box’ – it has been proven that having a more inclusive workforce can help achieve a higher return on equity and better financial performance by strengthening an organisation’s intellectual capacity.”
Aggregate Industries continues to invest in its diversity and inclusion programme in order to ensure a more balanced workforce – with a particular focus on attracting more women. As part of a wider diversity and inclusion strategy, Aggregate Industries is committed to creating an environment where people can be themselves and feel supported regardless of their sexual orientation.
