Helping the environment

Helping the environment

The Thames is a four lane highway with no speed lanes, bumps or cyclists. It therefore provides a clear thoroughfare for sustainable transportation. The use of barges for transportation can shift thousands of lorry miles off London’s roads, helping ease congestion and the amount of emissions.

Area of operation

Bennett’s Barges operate across all of London’s waterways, including the River Thames, River Medway and the Swale. The City of London originally developed around the transport links of its waterways and today these provide uncongested routes into and within the busy City allowing for sustainable transportation of bulk cargo and aggregate.
