Aggregate Industries campers happy at retirement village

We are helping transform a former holiday camp into the UK’s largest retirement village.

On the site of the former Pontins’ ‘Middleton Towers’ resort in Lancaster, Prestigious Retirement Villages’ flagship Middleton Village development occupies a prime 80 acre costal site.

In addition to exclusive residential accommodation for the over 55s, the resort aims to provide a true village atmosphere, with onsite facilities such as a hotel, indoor swimming pool and tennis court, plus a doctor’s surgery.

A leader in the supply and manufacture of reconstituted stone products for residential developments throughout the UK, we are supplying our ingenious T-shaped masonry walling block system for all 650 new homes and associated buildings on the scheme, providing the appearance of natural stone at a fraction of the cost.

Manchester-based architects, The Ratcliff Partnership, selected our Masonry blocks in Cotswold, Southwold and Weathered Cotswold shades to complement the local stone vernacular and create the appearance of a traditional English village.

Regarded as on of the most authentic natural stone alternatives currently on the market, our T-shaped block system eliminates the impression of coursing when constructed, a key characteristic of natural random rubble walling. Each block is cast with false joints, appearing to be made of several individual stones. Providing all real and false joints are pointed, the overall finished effect is of traditional random walling.

The product has a number of other advantages, offering excellent resistance to moisture and faster installation times than traditional brick or block construction.

Due for completion in 2013, the project will be built in a number of phases and represents one of the largest single orders in Bradstone’s history. In total, we will supply in the region of 800,000 sq m of masonry block walling, with a total value in excess of £1.6 million. We are also supplying more than two million concrete blocks in the scheme.

Gary Buxton, Development Manager, Prestigious Retirement Villages said: “Our residents are full of character and want to live in homes that reflect this. At the same time, they want the type of home which you would find in a traditional English village and Aggregate Industries helped us to achieve this.”

“Combining Aggregate's masonry walling blocks with a range of other finishes, we have been able to create an interesting and appealing street scene which contributes to a sense of community within the development.”

“Feedback from our purchasers had been extremely positive and this is borne out by brisk sales on the early phases.”

“At a more practical level, Aggregate Industries' pricing, service and ability to supply such a large development, were important factors in their selection.”

The contractor on the scheme is PLG (Morecambe) Ltd.
