Aggregate Industries Looks to Lytag® to Achieve Double Win at LCAs

July 2017

Aggregate Industries has seen its ground-breaking secondary aggregate, Lytag® shortlisted in two categories in the prestigious London Construction Awards.

The awards will be hosted at The Royal Garden Hotel on the 25th October 2017, providing an evening of entertainment and recognition, attended by more than 400 movers and shakers from across the London construction industry.

Shortlisted in the ‘Product Innovation of the Year’ and ‘Sustainability Construction’ categories, Aggregate Industries has been selected for its innovative approach in using Lytag to revolutionise modern construction through Lytacrete® concrete.

Lytacrete is a specialist lightweight solution which is formed using Lytag aggregate, resulting in densities 30% less than normal weight. This provides developers with increased flexibility within their structural design.

The possibilities afforded by Lytag have seen the material utilised across various commercial and residential projects of all sizes, including concrete floor slabs in The Shard, The Leadenhall Building and, most recently, specified as part of the 22 Bishopsgate ‘skyscraper’ in London, becoming the tallest building in the city.

Steve Curley, General Manager at Lytag, said: “It is fantastic recognition to be shortlisted as Product Innovation of the Year and in the Sustainable Construction category in the London Construction Awards. The development of Lytacrete is a game-changer for the industry, and in our recent projects in London it has proved vital to structural efficiency, allowing more artistic freedom, and substantially reducing the amount of materials required.”
