Brief

Aggregate Industries is proud to announce that one of its main logistics partners, Turners Haulage, has been awarded the prize for “Most Innovative Fleet Management” for 2014 by the Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS).

The award comes just 12 months after Turners bagged the LCRS prize for “Carbon Reduction through Fuel Efficiencies.”

David Palmer-Smith, Distribution Manager for the Cementitious Materials division of Aggregate Industries comments:

“Environmental preservation is of the upmost importance to Aggregate Industries as we, like many organisations, strive to be as responsible as possible with the carbon we use. We are proud to work with companies such as Turners Haulage, who is leading the way in energy efficient fleet management.

“To be recognised by the LCRS as a leading contributor to the future of carbon reduction in the transportation division is an outstanding achievement, and we are confident that this will not be the last addition to Turners’ trophy cabinet.”

The nationwide award recognises the efforts of Turners in identifying driver styles, behaviour and fuel efficiency of each of its lorries. Following years of in depth research, the dedicated team developed route based analysis and improvement tools, to complement their traditional driver training and use of telematics, significantly improving the companies’ fleet management.

Solution

The initiative has and continues to focus on developing a generic ‘ECO Assist App’ for drivers, accessible via an android based phone. The ‘ECO Assist App’ provides drivers with real time in-cab advisory information. This is based on geographical position, direction, flow of traffic and their final destination. The App has helped reduce fuel usage on selected routes and enable the company to utilise their fleet as efficiently as possible.

LCRS is a voluntary initiative that now has over 96 companies accounting for over 66,000 commercial vehicles. It contains many of the UK’s leading Transport operators and contains many household names. It reports directly to The Department of Transports Freight Carbon review which helps steer Government policy in this area.

Aggregate Industries continues to meet its own energy efficiency targets year-on-year and is proud to work with innovative and forward thinking companies such as Turners Haulage.
