Charcon were able to deliver high quality products which were aesthetically pleasing, durable and sustainable for the rennovation of a major railway station
Located next to the £500 million Bullring, Europe’s largest shopping complex, The Birmingham Alliance, is responsible for the development of Birmingham’s whole East Side, and has transformed the old Grade 2 listed Moor Street Station into an exciting new gateway to the city in partnership with Chiltern Railways.
Built in 1909, the building was to be carefully and sympathetically refurbished in the style of a 1930’s station, with brickwork, colouring, signage, fixtures and fittings chosen to reflect the era. Now complete and open to the public, it is operated by Chiltern Railways.
Charcon’s EcoPave flag paving in addition to platform copings from Charcon’s specialist division, have been used to finish off the refurbished station to help restore it to its former glory.
More than 500 platform copings and almost 3,000 m2 of custom made 750x600x50 mm EcoPave flag paving, both in a Black Fleck textured finish, were supplied to Hill Street Construction for installation on the three platforms of the old station and their approaches.
“Moor Street is one of the most attractive stations in the UK and we have had a very favourable reaction from the public since it reopened. Charcon was able to deliver a quality product which has helped us to create a pleasant environment for our passengers.”
Mark Cockerill, Project Manager, Chiltern Railways
