Brief

Summerbridge is a lovely village situated on the B6165 in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire with the River Nidd flowing close by. For such a small village it houses a pub, post office, village store, tea room, butcher and an electrical shop. Two miles to the northeast of Summerbridge is the popular place of Brimham Rocks set within the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and this moorland is filled with fascinating and strange rock formations with plenty of wildlife too.

Due to the site being within the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the highest standards of design which reflect local distinctiveness were required. Views as to what is locally distinctive include building form and proportions, roof pitches, ratio of openings to solid wall, door and window proportions, local building materials and how these are used.

Solution

Bradstone Old Quarried roofing slates were used to stay compliant with the desirable Summerbridge environment.

This high quality range of reconstructed stone roofing slates preserve the fundamental characteristics of the original natural stone slates from which they are cast, and are a superior substitute for the continual decline of natural products.

Bradstone Old Quarried product features include:

  • Contains up to 50% recycled material making them the sustainable choice
  • Available in two colours to suit any application and environment
  • Supplied in a range of diminishing courses and random widths which give the roof the appearance of having used heavy stone
  • Allow for reduced erection and timber costs
  • Suitable for roofs down to a minimum pitch of 25°
