Aggregate Industries adds a splash of colour to Dogs Trust with blue concrete

As part of a larger, ongoing project, leading construction materials supplier Aggregate Industries has supplied Dogs Trust in Darlington with coloured concrete to brighten up its new outdoor play space.

The 5m3 of ArteviaTM concrete in ‘ocean blue’ forms the base of a water run in the rescue and adoption centre’s yard, and is part of a complete site rebuild that will also include 1500m3 of standard concrete from Aggregate Industries.

The build, undertaken as part of a wider partnership between Dogs Trust and award-winning civil engineers McPhillips (Wellington) Ltd, started in June 2018. Phase one is complete, and the second and final phase will be fully completed in June 2020. Once improvements are finalised, the site will feature a greater number of kennels, a dedicated training and behaviour centre, and a hydrotherapy pool for dogs recovering from injury.

Terry Scott, Territory Sales Manager, Ready-Mixed Concrete at Aggregate Industries, said: “Our Artevia concrete was the ideal solution to add some colour to the yard at Dogs Trust’s adoption centre. Its robust, hard-wearing properties make it perfect for being subjected to dogs at play time, and is much easier to maintain than painted surfaces.

“We’re delighted to be part of this project that will bring improved facilities to the dogs while they await adoption.”

Sue Embleton, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Darlington, said: “We are delighted that phase one of the build has been completed, and we are already seeing our residents enjoying the surfaces provided by Aggregate Industries.

“The new centre will boast a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy pool where dogs can be aided in recovery if they have undergone surgery or have long-term mobility problems. There will be a new training and play area where dogs can spend valuable time with their designated canine carers.”
