Leading construction building materials supplier, Aggregate Industries, is delighted to announce a talented 11-year-old pupil from a Doncaster primary school as the winner of its recent truck design competition.
Chosen for her creative and innovative design, Year 6 pupil Poppy Scott from Edenthorpe Hall Primary Academy in Doncaster has been named the winner of the company’s truck design competition, which ran earlier this year. Poppy’s winning entry included Aggregate Industries’ environmental pledge: ‘our commitment is set in concrete’.
The competition, part of Aggregate Industries’ effort to support teachers and parents educating children at home during lockdown, encouraged all schools, parents and pupils across the UK to come up with a fresh new look for one of the company’s concrete trucks.
The competition was also aimed at educating pupils on sustainable construction materials including ECOPact, the company’s new low carbon range of concrete.
Indeed, with Year 6 pupils at the Edenthorpe Hall Primary Academy in Doncaster learning about environmental issues over lockdown, class teacher Jasmine French spotted Aggregate Industries’ vision to create a more sustainable future via its work in the construction sector.
Seeing it as a fun and exciting opportunity for students to complement their learning, pupils we’re encouraged to enter the truck design competition and given two weeks to get creative and submit their final designs.
Jasmine French, Poppy’s Year 6 teacher, comments: “It was an excellent and exciting competition to make the pupils more aware of how businesses are adapting to ensure the government’s target of Net Zero 2050 is met. All of the children love a competition and were very happy about the prospect of having their own design on a truck. Poppy was ecstatic when she found out and her classmates cheered and gave her a round of applause.
“I couldn’t be any prouder of all of the children who entered the competition, as they all put a lot of thought into their designs. When I got the call to say that Poppy had been chosen as the winner, I was absolutely delighted. Poppy really cares about the environment and climate change, and I know that winning this competition meant a lot to her.”
The leading construction materials supplier has since had one of its concrete trucks wrapped in Poppy’s design by CGI Visual, which will be seen driving up and down the country in the coming months. Aggregate Industries also gifted each child who entered the competition with a £20 Amazon voucher as a thank you for taking part.

ECOPact concrete which launched last year in response to the construction industry’s demand for more sustainable products, boasts up to 70% less embodied carbon than traditional concrete.
