Solution
The supply terminal at the Isle of Grain, Kent was established to supply this project. This dedicated site offered sufficient land to enable TML to construct their segment production factories and storage yard infrastructure from which the segments were transported by rail direct to the tunnel head.
All other aggregate products required at the tunnel head site and the rail ballast were also transported by train from the Isle of Grain import terminal to two on-site rail distribution depots which were operationally managed from the Isle of Grain terminal as a total logistics package.
Glensanda granite was chosen as the preferred concreting aggregate due to its non reactive and low heat generation properties due to the high cement content of the high strength concrete.
We continued to do more work on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
